Even a professional screenwriter like me wouldn’t try to sell this story: Federal tax cuts heavily favoring the rich and corporations will somehow help the middle class. The reality, of course, is that working families will be hurt by the loss or erosion of public services like Medicare, Medicaid and education that these tax cuts for the wealthy will require.

The tax bill’s authors are peddling other fictions. What’s being presented as a “small business” tax cut will really mostly help the wealthiest 1 percent of business owners like President Trump — not 99 percent of business owners like me.

Meanwhile, supposedly consumer-friendly changes to the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) included in the plan will only serve to push up my family’s health insurance premiums.

I’m hoping Sen. Susan Collins sees through this flimsy fantasy and votes no on the Senate tax bill.
